Summer Maintenance Checklist

We’ve compiled a summer maintenance checklist that you can use all season for reference. We know that every community has different needs so please print and add to this checklist to fit your needs. Download the graphic below and share!


*As we do our best to stay safe during COVID-19, the CDC recommends that maintenance workers and residents getting maintenance done in close proximity should wear face coverings.

  • Inspect decks for any decay.
  • Check electrical outlets for potential fire hazards such as frayed wires or loose-fitting plugs.
  • Verify all window and door locks are working properly and have screens on them.
  • Clean or replace furnace filters monthly.
  • Switch HVAC system dampers over for the hot summer months
  • Perform AC inspection and maintenance
  • Turn water valves on for hose bibs and confirm no active leaking
  • Inspect washing machine hoses for cracks. 
  • Barbecue areas should be well ventilated.
  • Trees and shrubs should be cut back to prevent damage to sides of buildings and a possible fire hazard. 
  • Check with your local fire department about heat and dryness advisories when working with lawn equipment.
  • Check fire extinguishers and smoke detectors each season.
  • All pools should be secured from children. They should be cleaned and taken care of. 
  • Clean grills and/ or check propane tanks.
  • Check outdoor furniture in public spaces for damage or cracks.
