Get to Know Our Employees

At Cardinal we believe we have the most well-trained, experienced professionals that care about the communities they serve. Each month we’ll feature one of our awesome team members in our Employee Spotlight.

Today, get to know Josh Newsom, Community Manager CMCA®.

Tell us about your role and your primary responsibilities.

I’m a portfolio manager at Cardinal and my responsibilities include assisting homeowners and Association Board members in conquering the challenges they often face.

What about your position do you find most rewarding?

What I find most rewarding in my career is when I’m able to put a smile on someone’s face by helping them with whatever problem they are up against.

Cardinal has a reputation of delivering outstanding service and caring about the communities they serve. Would you agree with that reputation and if so, can you give us an example of when you felt you went above and beyond in your role?

That reputation fits us well and often I find myself in a position to offer our clients with a high level of service. Here’s an example of a small thing, but as we know the little things make a big difference. In late 2019 one of our HOA clients had decided to hold their annual meeting on a Saturday in order to increase attendance from the membership. As a result, they needed the materials for the annual meeting dropped off in advance of the date. I decided the best way to do it would be to drop it off with the Board president before she left for work early that morning. She had offered to come pick it up and I suppose she didn’t have a chance to see my response saying that I’d be happy to drop it off, so she was happily surprised to see me stop by in the morning to spare her the trip and I was happy to spare her of one more item on her to do list. Especially considering that it was a Friday and I’m sure she wanted to get a head start on her weekend! I didn’t really think twice about it, I just thought I was doing my job trying to help my client as best as I could, but she appreciated the gesture so much that she told the leadership team here at Cardinal about it.

What about Cardinal made you decide to join the team?

The reputation of the business, one specific part of that being the high level of employee retention here. Many of the managers at Cardinal have been around for years in an industry that has a reputation for having high turnover. For me personally, that really speaks a ton of positive things about Cardinal.

Name one fun or unlikely thing people may not know about Cardinal but should.

One thing I’d like everyone to know is that we also have an office down in the sunny state of Florida, so when that time in everyone’s life comes around to buy that lovely condo in the sunshine state make sure you give us a call! OR – There’s an unofficial competition around the office to see which managers can get the most kudos from their Boards and homeowners at the communities they manage. Most of us keep our good feedback posted on our walls for bragging rights!

Do you have any tips for someone that may be looking to get into the community management industry?

My best tip for someone trying to get into the industry is for them to obtain their CMCA designation. The test can be challenging but is well worth the effort.
